A Billion Small Steps is a student-led campaign to educate, inspire, and empower people to protect pollinators—and through them, the planet. At its heart, it's about taking small, meaningful actions that collectively lead to big change. Whether it’s planting a native garden, learning about pollinators, teaching others, or inspiring your community to act, each small step contributes to a larger movement of environmental awareness and regeneration. Because when millions of us take one small step—together—we create unstoppable momentum. 

Why This Matters

Food Security Starts With Pollinators

Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and beetles are disappearing fast. Industrial farming is wiping out their food, cities are paving over their homes, and the climate crisis is making survival harder every day. These tiny creatures make 75% of global food production possible. Losing them means losing entire ecosystems—and our food security with them.

Every Patch Makes a Difference

Led by students at Metro Prep Academy, A Billion Small Steps is reclaiming pollinator habitats, one native garden at a time. Native plants evolved alongside pollinators, blooming when they’re needed most, delivering the right nutrients, and offering safe nesting spots. Even the smallest patch—in a backyard, on a balcony, or at a school—becomes part of a connected network, restoring the habitats pollinators need to survive and recover.
